It should be set to do automatic updates. virus scan of whole pc3Then see if the anti-virus has done a whole computer scan recently and if not run one. Many of these programs do not set the complete scan to run because it take so long and will keep your PC tied up while it is running.

Another “make my computer faster” tip: set the virus protection level to high before running the scan to get the best chance of catching any viruses. You can set it back to a lower level after the scan is finished if you like.

4. Remove Unneeded Startup Programs: Your PC probably has a great many programs that fire-off when you start your computer. See how to find and remove these programs by clicking Remove Startup Programs.

5. Find Out If Your PC Has Enough Memory: A computer’s short term memory or working memory is called RAM or Random Access Memory. This is many times a deciding factor in the speed of a computer. ram chipsWhat happens many times when there is not adequate RAM is that a computer will slow down after a few months of use. It seemed to be OK for a while when it’s new but as more programs are added and probably a little clutter in the registry has been added the memory is no long able to carry the load.

Finding out if you have enough RAM is easy to do – for more click RAM Performance Test. We also have a page to show you how to install more RAM if you need to. It isn’t hard on most PC’s and you can save money and do it yourself. For this go to Installing More RAM.(this page is under construction)

6. Use Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter: The last “make my computer faster” repair is to use tools already built into your PC. The Windows operating system provides a couple of cleanup tools that will optimize the hard drive. The are found in –> Programs –> Accessories –> System Tools –> and then the Disk Cleanup and the Disk Defragmenter are each there. Run one and then the other. Again this is a help for the hard drive storage and will not help other areas. These tools are the most useful when your hard drive is beginning to reach capacity.

Running The Free Scan On Your Computer

Most of the slow computer problems today can be uncovered by a SAFE, simple scan of the computer’s Registry. The registry on a computer stores the vital information or configurations for the operating system and the programs.

Registry 300x177

Don't mess with the registry yourself!

only 35 problems found 276x300

Example of few errors

Access to it is need often as your PC works and if it is not readily available, or the processor has to go looking for it, your computer will respond slowly.

The optimization of the registry is just good maintenance for your computer. It is something much like the anti-virus software, that every computer needs. Our sponsor program is an All-In-One system that looks after all areas of your PC. The free scan will go through all the files in you PC, very quickly, and spot any errors, missing files, bits and pieces of old files, etc. It will then tell you what it found. At that point you can either purchase or subscribe to the software or not. They have different prices for different programs that are reasonably priced. You can get just the one time fix or, for a little more sign up an annual subscription.

I have personally scanned computers that did not need this registry fix because it had only a few errors. But I have also scanned computers that had 1000′s or errors and other issues. I think every computer that is exposed to the Internet or is operated for very long will need a program such as this eventually.

Go ahead and take advantage of the scan. You’re going to have a much better idea about your computer’s condition once you do. It should give you an idea if all these other optimizing methods will be worth the time.

Removing Old Programs and Data From Your Computer

There is a right and wrong way to remove programs and application from your computer. I was able to make my computer faster, and several others as well, by removing programs that were not being used any more. An example was a bookkeeping program that was no longer needed and yet was still starting up when the computer was started. It was still doing automatic updates as well that would also slow the computer down. More is discussed on programs start at boot-up at Removing Startup Programs.

The right way to remove these programs is to go to Control Panel and find “Programs”. This will open up a list of all the programs on your computer. You can “Uninstall” the program by selecting it and following the instructions. Very simple and the correct way to remove it.

RAM Performance Test and Making Computer Faster

There are some simple ways to see if your memory is adequate for your PC and what you are doing with it. The easiest thing to check is the Task Manager. On the bottom tool bar right click and then click Task Manager. On the box you will see across the bottom “Physical Memory” which is RAM and “CPU Usage”, the computer processor’s percent of capacity being used. You can watch this as you use your computer and see where the levels are.

If the RAM stays above 70% your computer will be slow because of a lack of available memory. 50 to 60% is usually as high as you want this to run. Try restarting your computer and before you start up any programs check this level again. If it is still high there is probably one of two problems: Too many start up programs or just not enough RAM. The excessive start up programs are discussed Here.

If it is not enough RAM then that can be fixed easier and cheaper than you think. We will go over buying and installing new additional RAM on your computer yourself on our page Installing RAM.

Causes Of Computer Errors And Their Solutions

Computer errors can be a source of stress for anyone who owns a computer. It is therefore important that you get some basic skills on how to diagnose the causes of various errors on your computer. When a computer is new, it runs very well but after a time, things start to slow down and various PC errors start to crop up. You need to carry out regular maintenance on your computer and upgrade the software and hardware accordingly so that you can avoid these errors.

One of the biggest causes of computer errors is a corrupt registry. Most file errors are caused by the fact that the registry is full of invalid entries which make it hard for the computer to access important data for other programs to run well. These PC errors can be very frustrating since they can occur even as you are in the middle of an important task.

Viruses are also a cause of computer errors. They infect your filing system and make certain information unreachable or corrupt. This will cause your computer to have errors. You should get a premium anti-virus software to ensure that you computer is well protected at all times. Once can never tell when a virus will infect their system and cause a critical crash that may erase years of data stored in your computer.

In order to try and resolve these errors you should look for a good registry cleaner to help clear your registry of all invalid entries. Your computer will run better when this is done. You should also defragment your hard disk so that the files on the system can remain contiguous. This means that the computer does not have to work so hard to get data that you may be working on. PC errors can be repaired as long as you use the right software to repair the errors and keep them from occurring again through regular maintenance.

When it comes to how to make my computer faster I also investigated freeware that will help with the cleanup process and optimization. It seems that a lot of advertisements use the word “free” but what is free is the scan or maybe the download. The repair of the errors the program finds is not free. Here is a site with more discussion on freeware – Free Registry Repair.
